Privacy without fine print.

Mic Check is designed to solve one audio-routing problem without listening to you. The app never records, analyzes, or transmits audio.

What the Mac app does

Mic Check reads metadata that macOS provides about available audio input devices and the current system default input. It changes that default when needed to enforce the microphone order you chose.

Your preferences are stored locally on your Mac. Mic Check does not require microphone permission because it does not open or capture a microphone audio stream.

Diagnostic logs

Mic Check keeps small, rotating diagnostic logs on your Mac. Core operational events are logged so failures are not silent. If you enable detailed debug logging, the app records additional snapshots useful for support.

Logs may contain:

Logs never contain audio, transcripts, dictation text, or the content of your conversations. They remain on your Mac unless you deliberately export and send a file to support.

Software updates

The paid direct-download edition does not check for or download updates in version 1. If a protected update channel is added later, this policy will be updated before it is activated. The Mac App Store edition uses Apple’s update system.

Support

If you email miccheck@8oclock.co, the message, contact address, and attachments you provide are used only to answer and diagnose your request. Diagnostic attachments are deleted within 90 days after the support request is closed, unless they are needed longer to investigate an active issue or the law requires retention.

Website analytics

MicCheckMac.com uses Google Analytics to record page views, referrers, campaign tags, and actions such as checkout, App Store, product education, order-access or redownload, verified purchase, and support clicks. The Google tag loads automatically when the site opens. Analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalization, and Google Signals are enabled. The site may retain a Google Ads click ID and the five standard UTM campaign tags in this browser for up to 24 hours so checkout intent and a later signed order can be associated with the campaign that brought you to the site. It does not collect form entries or buyer contact details for this purpose.

When you choose the Direct checkout, the site passes those optional campaign identifiers and, when Google Analytics is available, its pseudonymous client and session IDs through the Lemon Squeezy checkout. This lets a signed paid order retain the originating site session and campaign even if the buyer does not return to MicCheckMac.com.

These settings allow Google to associate site activity with advertising interactions and, where Google has the necessary account and device information, support personalized advertising, cross-device reporting, and demographic or interest reporting. The site does not use session replay or sell personal data. You can limit or clear storage with your browser’s privacy and cookie controls. Lemon Squeezy and Apple remain the records of purchases and Store sales.

Hosting and essential security

MicCheckMac.com is hosted with OpenAI Sites and delivered through Cloudflare. Those services necessarily process ordinary request data such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, and timestamp to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare may set a short-lived, strictly necessary bot-management or security cookie. Mic Check does not use that hosting activity to build advertising profiles.

Payments and downloads

Direct purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy receives the contact, payment, tax, and transaction information needed to complete the $9.99 purchase, deliver the download, provide receipts and redownloads, handle applicable taxes, and support refunds. Mic Check does not receive or store full payment-card details. Review Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy, its Buyer Terms, and our Direct Terms & Refunds before purchasing.

Purchase verification

Lemon Squeezy sends MicCheckMac.com a signed notice when a Direct order is paid or refunded. To verify the order and prevent duplicate conversion reporting, the site stores minimized pseudonymous transaction metadata: Lemon Squeezy order and product identifiers, test or live mode, payment or refund status, order currency, USD subtotal, tax, total and refund amounts, event timestamps, optional Google Analytics client and session IDs, optional Google Ads click ID and UTM campaign tags, and measurement-attempt plus accepted-collection timestamps. Endpoint acceptance does not prove that Google ultimately processed or reported the event.

This verification record does not contain the buyer’s name, email address, customer ID, receipt link, card details, or the complete webhook payload. After a signed Live paid-order notice, the server validates and sends Google a stable pseudonymous transaction ID and USD purchase value even if the buyer does not return to MicCheckMac.com. If valid Google Analytics client and session IDs came through checkout, they preserve the originating session and campaign. If they are unavailable, the server uses a stable per-order pseudonymous client ID, omits the session, and denies advertising-user-data and advertising-personalization use for that fallback request. After a signed full-refund notice, the server sends one matching Google Analytics refund only when the original purchase was measured. Partial refunds remain in the verification record for reconciliation and do not generate an inaccurate full-refund event. The return page verifies the order for the customer but does not send a second purchase event. The verification record is retained only as needed for purchase reconciliation, refunds, fraud prevention, and accurate measurement.

Your choices

You can disable detailed debug logging at any time, inspect exported logs before sharing them, delete local logs by removing the app’s Mic Check log folder, or ask support to delete material you sent.
